About the Crematorium

The North East Surrey Crematorium is a local service provided jointly by the Borough Councils of MertonSutton and Wandsworth.

The crematorium building has a chapel where the services are conducted and has a waiting area and car parking for visitors. Adjacent to the crematorium is the remembrance building that contains the book of remembrance, memorial vases and crystal plaques. All of our buildings and grounds are fully wheelchair accessible.

The crematorium also has a garden of remembrance which has a range of memorial options.

Our aim is to give you a caring and sympathetic service with the advice and support to arrange the funeral and memorials in a way which is meaningful to all concerned and staff are always available to answer any questions you may have.

The crematorium is administered by the North East Surrey Crematorium Board (NESCB), comprised of Councillors from Merton, Sutton and Wandsworth Borough Councils.

The Board meets quarterly and considers and approves policy and strategy. Day to day management of the Board’s operation is performed by the Board’s Chief Officers. Board meetings, agenda, minutes and reports.

North East Surrey Crematorium are members of the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management and The Federation of Burial and Cremation Authorities.

Charter for the bereaved

The Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management (ICCM) produced the charter in 1996 and the North East Surrey Crematorium Board was granted charter status in April 2005.

The charter sets out expected service standards and is a way to continually improve the services offered to the bereaved.

North East Surrey Crematorium holds the Gold Standard.

Recycling of Metals

Through the ICCM we participate in the Recycling of Metals Scheme.  The metals that remain after the cremation process, such as orthopaedic implants and coffin nails, are collected and sent for recycling by many crematoria across the country in a joint scheme.  The money raised through this process is then paid out by the ICCM in the form of donations to bereavement based charities.  The board have chosen six local charities to receive our nominations.
