Arranging a Funeral

Generally, the services of a funeral director are chosen to help make the arrangements for a funeral.

Funeral directors can collect and care for the deceased, deal with the statutory paperwork required for the cremation, provide a coffin of your choice and supply funeral vehicles and bearers to carry the coffin into the service.  They can also assist you with orders of service, floral tributes, finding a minister or celebrant to conduct the service and selecting any music and visual tributes you may wish to have at the crematorium service.  Many also have a list of local venues that can hold wakes after the service has taken place.

Alternatively, if you wish to deal with all the arrangements yourself, please call us and we will be happy to talk you through what you will need to do.

When you visit the funeral home to arrange the funeral, they will call the crematorium to find out available dates and times for the service to be held, and once agreed with you will make the booking.

If you wish, you may arrange for up to four representatives to see the coffin placed in the cremator.  You will need to advise your funeral director before they book the service with us to ensure that we can schedule this into our daily timings.

North East Surrey Crematorium offer the following cremation services:

Direct Cremation

A direct cremation does not have any mourners in attendance and there is no service held in the chapel.  Your funeral director will bring the deceased to the crematorium, usually at the start of the day, carry them into the chapel and place them on the catafalque where they will rest for a short time before being taken into the crematory for cremation.

Reduced Fee Cremation

This service is available at 9.20am only Monday to Friday.  Mourners can attend and a service of up to 30 minutes can be held in the chapel.  Please note we cannot facilitate additional chapel time or witnessed charge of the coffin for this service time.

Cremation

Starting from 10am our diary times are every 40 minutes up to 4pm, this allows for 5 minutes to enter and exit chapel and a 30-minute service that mourners can attend. Should you wish for a longer service in chapel another 40 minutes may be added for an additional fee.  Please advise your funeral director at the time of booking to ensure your requirements can be met.

We also offer cremation services on Saturdays and Sundays subject to staff availability.

All cremations are carried out with great care. Each coffin is cremated separately, usually on the same day as the service, exactly as it is received.

We have two cremators and can accommodate coffins up to a maximum size of 40” wide x 7’2” long x 29” high.
